Well, I’m not a college girl and I like Johnny Depp!

I took this photo in Kiev and I sent it to Sophia. She wanted to know what the poster said. So I got to do a little translation work.

Right away I noticed the language looked Russian, but it was actually Ukrainian. The first give away is the use of “i” where in Russian there’d typically be “и”.

Look at this [translated image of a] “Public Enemies”, Johnny Depp movie poster from Kiev!

This poster is in Ukrainian, but here’s a Russian equivalent, as well as the English.  The poster was on a street in Kiev, Ukraine which has Russian and Ukrainian speaking, as well as International population. This is the movie poster for “Public Enemies”, which is a US concept and doesn’t translate literally into other cultures. So they used the internationally well known star’s name джонни д. “Johnny D.” for the movie’s selling point title. And of course it sold… ahhhh, star power

In Russian and Ukrainian, there is no letter “J”, so the sound is created with “дж”.

д is “D” and ж is “zh” as in “visual”, so дж is “J” but softer, just as it sounds in “visual” or “usual”.

tрозшукується Literally “wanted” (very loosely translates into our ”Public Enemies”)

Я решил связаться с Вами, потому что я хочу преподавать английский (американский) язык в Вашей организации.

В данное время я работаю над тем, чтобы получить сертификата TEFL, с помощъю которого я смогу преподавать английский иностранцам. Данный сертификат также будет включать особые отметки о том, что я буду иметь право преподавать деловой английский и английский для детей.

Я был в Украине два раза. Я побывал в Киеве, Ровном, Одессе, Ивано-Франковске и горах Карпаты. У меня есть друзья в разных украинских городах и мне нравится изучать русский язык – хотя я новичок.

Я встретил многих друзей, когда я путешествовал по Украине. Я также встретил друзей на международных сайтах по обучению языкам. Друзья из данных сайтов хорошо отзываются о моих возможностях преподавать английский. Я хочу жить в русскоязычной стране, как Украина, в течение двух или больше лет, чтобы я смог выучить и свободно говорит на русском языке.
