What I Do

I enjoy researching, planning, writing, presenting and teaching.

Since 1996 I’ve worked in Information Technology fields…Nataliya and Christopher at Mary Kay Ukraine HeadquartersAs a young student in 1981 I built my first computer from a kit. Since then I was hooked. And I’ve built computers since my first 8088s and XT boards–all the way through advanced Pentium chipsets and board.

I forgot to start Microsoft, Napster and FaceBook, but I enjoyed the work.

I’ve written code since the original line coding on that first computer. Through the years that included Basic, batch files, PERL, HTML, PHP, JavaScript, ASP, ASP.NET (VB and C#), CSS, DHTML, XHTML, XML, and Web Services.

I began designing my first graphics for early websites (1996) using MS Paint and PhotoShop 3. Since then I’ve used several design applications but prefer PhotoShop.

I’ve worked as a webmaster for a California State University campus, as well as at several small to mid sized businesses. In those capacities I managed DNS records locally and on domain servers, managed many types of email servers and web servers in early UNIX as well as Windows servers for Netscape, Windows and other lesser and greater web server applications.

I’ve worked with every Microsoft operating system since early DOS, and through Windows 3.1, and NT 4, 98, 98SE, ME, XP, Windows 2000, Vista :) , Windows 7, as well as LAMP and WAMP configurations.

The sheer number of applications I’ve worked with would literally fill a page. I’ve worked with LMS Learning Management Systems, CMS Content Management Systems, SharePoint MOSS and WSS, Internets, Intranets, Extranets and about .0000001% of the Internet–and that’s a lot!

I first began my email addiction in 1993–yes: 1993. And I was so happy with my first 14,400 baud modem–after all those lesser ones!

As a Technical Writer, I’ve written technical documents, requirements, proposals, contracts, marketing pieces as well as seemingly infinite website content for SEO as well as information.

I can work on code as a suitable hack, I can build computers, and I can work with Windows operating systems and servers. I really hope I never need to do those things again.

I enjoy researching, planning, writing, presenting and teaching.

I get more value from helping people directly than from helping code, machines and processes.

As Albert Einstein said, “Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.” And I’m hoping to live that life now.
