Translated Movie Poster
Well, I’m not a college girl and I like Johnny Depp!
I took this photo in Kiev and I sent it to Sophia. She wanted to know what the poster said. So I got to do a little translation work.
The language looked Russian, but it was actually Ukrainian. The first give away is the use of “i” where in Russian there’d typically be “и”.
This poster is in Ukrainian, but here’s a Russian equivalent, as well as the English. The poster was on a street in Kiev, Ukraine which has Russian and Ukrainian speaking, as well as International population. This is the movie poster for “Public Enemies”, which is a US concept and doesn’t translate literally into other cultures. So they used the internationally well known star’s name джонни д. “Johnny D.” for the movie’s selling point title. And of course it sold… ahhhh, star power 
джонни депп = Johnny Depp
In Russian and Ukrainian, there is no letter “J”, so the sound is created with “дж”. д is “D” and ж is “zh” as in “visual”, so дж is “J” but softer, just as it sounds in “visual” or “usual”.
